I Need a Good Book

By Chad Morris

I need a good book. And you people seem to be some of the best to help me out. Recently I read Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card, and Princess of Mars (the book John Carter was based on) by Edgar Burroughs. I liked them both, but must admit they were both a little too grown up for me. I need a good MG/YA recommendation. I have a few I've been waiting to read, but I'm kind of in the mood to read something that wasn't on my radar--discover something new. I love fantasy and sci-fi. Any recommendations? Some of my favorites are Brandon Mull and Eoin Colfer.

The Accidental Hero (Jack Blank Adventure, #1)

The Jack Blank series looked intriguing to me. Anyone read them?

Oh, and if you didn’t see it on Shelly’s facebook, or the Former786’s blog, give this a try.

You’re welcome.

  1. Artemis Fowl is an excellent MG fantasy series, and the author is coming to Provo next month. You should check it out for sure!

  2. I've enjoyed the Artemis Fowl series. Not sure what to suggest since I tend to read YA and adult.

  5. Have you read The False Prince by Jennifer Nielsen? There is only that one book out right now but I think she said it's supposed to be a trilogy. I thought it was excellent and so did my 13 year old son!

Another series I started and just need to get back to is Here There Be Dragons by James Owens (I think that's the author). That was a great book but I can't recommend the audiobook version (sounded too hoighty toighty - are those words? lol). My son went on to read a few more in that series and loved them. He keeps bugging me to get back to the series.

What about Divergent followed by Insurgent? I thought Divergent was good but not fabulous. But my kid loved it and then loved Insurgent even more. I know I keep going on about my kid,but he's a boy, you're a boy. Maybe his recommendations will be up your alley. ;)

  6. I don't have any suggestions - I'm good like that - but I recently found this site - http://www.whatshouldireadnext.com/

I don't think it is perfect, yet, but seems to be on the right track. I'm playing with it's suggestions right now to figure out how right it is.

  7. You should read The Case of the Origami Yoda, or Heck: Where the Bad Kids Go, or The Series of Unfortunate Events, or Fifty Shades of Grey...

  8. Great stuff Shelly . . . until Fifty Shades. Have I ever read a romance?
