Albert Einstein, Abraham Lincoln, and Optimus Prime.

By Chad Morris

As “answer random questions” week continues, I’m answering questions from Traci Kenworth-- http://tracikenworth.wordpress.com. Thanks Traci for the fun opportunity.

Letters or phone calls?
That really depends on what you are trying to tell me. If you are my gas company and want to tell me about my month’s usage, please don’t call me. That would be a really boring conversation. But if you are trapped in your house with a clan or zombies or an alien ninja, feel free to call. I’ll talk you through it.

Fridays or Sundays?
Love them both. Might as well throw in Saturday too.

Favorite animal and why?

Is there a particular point in history you are fascinated by?
I love a lot of history, but especially the American Revolution and early Mormon history. Of course a good biography, like these . . .

is always good to awaken the history bug in me.

What tips do you use to cheer yourself up from rejection?

Do you write with music or TV in the background?
No way. I can barely focus as it is. If I do ever try to write with something in the background, I somehow begin typing the words to whatever is playing in the background. It ends up reading something like . . .
He picked up the scepter and looked back at the river of lava. He never would have imagined that in between the lines there’s a lot of obscurity. I’m not inclined to resign to maturity. If it’s all right, then you’re all wrong. Why bounce around . . .
(Name that jingle)

Cats or dogs?
Dogs. I grew up having a giant German Sheppard chasing me around my backyard. But for now, I like not having either. With five kids, I have plenty of little ones to feed and clean up after.

What are your writing habits?
I just try to work it in wherever I can. I mostly write on my lunch break, on the bus ride home from work, and nights when my children are asleep.

I think I’ll answer the last three questions at once: How would you survive a zombie apocalypse? An alien invasion? A dinosaur resurgence?
I really think I would defend myself with my bionic forearm, mystical battle ax, laser left eye. Of course my own army of stone warriors led by Optimus Prime would also come in handy—Might as well fight fiction with fiction.

And here are your questions. Consider yourself tagged (tell us if you are going to post them on your blog), or answer one in the comments below.

Yoga—for your soul, or for crazy people?
What is more painful than writing a synopsis?
If you were forced at gunpoint (those blasted literary terrorists) to run into a Barnes and Noble right now and buy any book, what would you get?
What was the last book you read?
Who annoys you more, 10 year old you, or 18 year old you?
What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on youtube?
Name one of your favorite characters in a book and tell us who you think should play them in a movie. (I know it wasn’t a question, but I don’t care).
What is the worst book title you can think of (made up or real)?
If you were banished from your country where would you live?
How much time do you spend on the internet every day?
If you could do a podcast series, what would it be about?

  1. Psych! I love that show. And there is no way I could write with it on in the background.

  5. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who writes on my lunch hour. (And by hour, I mean 25 minutes, of course).
