Guess this fairytale?

(This post is part of the Fairy Tale Madness Bloghop. To read other great fairy tale 'What if's' follow this LINK)

For my twist entry I twisted together a popular fairy tale and a popular film. See if you can guess which ones (actually I don't think this is going to be too hard)

Come gather ‘round children. I want to tell you a story that doesn’t start ‘once upon a time’ but starts ‘once in the 1980’s.’

Once in the 1980’s there was a sad preacher widower with twelve beautiful daughters....

(skip a lot)

...The young women were dressed like they were going to be in a Girl’s Just Wanna Have Fun MTV video. Half shirts, leg warmers, mini skirts, big bows, shoulder pads, and suspenders.

Jennifer pulled her trundle bed all the way out from under Jessica’s bed and one by one the girls scooted under the bed until they were gone.

Steven waited until the coast was clear then made his way past the reek of Exclamation and Aqua Net. Under the bed he found a hole and he dropped down. Using his Vietnam training he followed the clack of the girl’s pumps through a crudely dug tunnel into the Silver Spoons room– a room in the barn that they girls dedicated to Ricky Schroder. Steven plucked a Teen Beat pic off the wall and shoved it in his pocket. From the Silver Spoons room they walked down Gold Leaf Lane where the signature maples were actually gold for the season. Once again Steven took a souvenir, a leaf, and put it in the pocket with the Ricky vs. Kirk Cameron picture. From Gold Leaf Street they found themselves on Main Street, in front of the Diamond Bar. Once inside Steven saw them take an immediate right through an Employee Only door. Steven grabbed a bar napkin, put it in his pocket, and opened the door.

There was a rickety wooden staircase, which was still shaking from the girls down below. The smell of fog juice, incense, and BO hit him in the face. And the dance beat. Karma Kameleon to be specific. There was a dance club underneath the Diamond Bar. That would explain why the bar plays it’s Hank Williams so loud. It was an E&E club. Evian and Erasure.

So did you get it? I know it's not a perfect match but it was fun to try.
What mash-up fairy tale/film would you want to see?

    1. In the fairytale he brings them back to the father as proof of where the girls went.

  3. I read a re-telling of this one a couple of years ago, but the 1980's will be so much more fun.

  4. I don't know the fairytale, but the flashbacks and memories were a riot! Exclamation and Aqua Net, Ricky and Kirk, Karma Kameleon, so rad!

  5. I think it's 12 Dancing Princesses, unless that only exists on a Barbie DVD. But even if I'm wrong, the 80s FLASHBACK was totally worth it!

  12. Oh man! Good ol' 80's! hehehehe.
Love this! A very fun and descriptive story. Why do these styles keep coming back? Some should stay gone!

  13. Awesome! I knew the fairy tale pretty quick. I loved the Dancing Princesses. But I'm not sure what movie is being twisted with it, unless it's just 80s films in general. And there's nothing wrong with that.
