TMI

The Fabulous Robin Weeks (I am hearing Robin Leech's voice in my head ;) tagged me and being the pleaser that I am, I am responding.
Robin and I met in college while she was working on her degree in theater directing (she now has a law degree, is an awesome mother, and has a WIP on the verge of wonderdom. This is the way life works) and I was desperately taking any theater work I could get. She directed a two man absurdist piece and we got to know each other really well. I can honestly say that I learned a lot from being in Il and Elle. Very few people were offering opportunities for training in absurdist theater at the time.

1. Do you think you're hot?

Ummm...really? Did a high schooler come up with this question? Or a twenty something who didn't learn anything from high school? Or worse, an unmarried 30 something who still club hops?

But to answer the question, of course I do. Because I am.

2. Upload a picture or wallpaper you are using at the moment.

Oh, it's usually pics of my kids that I would never upload on my blog but...here is one of my son that allows him some privacy and violates an equal amount.
He's a pirate who always knows the time.

3. When was the last time you ate chicken?

Umm....again, who writes these questions? I think a more appropriate question would be 'when was the last time you ate star fruit?' I think that would tell you a lot more about a person.

So, I ate chicken for dinner last night. I ate sushi in Cleveland on Saturday. I ate rabbit and pheasant at a pub near Oxford last December. I ate alligator in Park City almost a decade ago. I ate squid on Pier 39 when I was 15. I've had ostrich, snake, octopus, buffalo, fish eggs, and a myriad of other things that usually weren't that good and that's why you can't buy them at WalMart.

4. The song(s) you listened to recently.

Do songs on my kids Wii games count?

I actually live in a world of constant noise and I don't feel the need to compete with the chaos that is 5 kids or to fill up the quiet spaces with sounds.

If I have the option to listen to music or talk to a person, I choose the person almost every time.

But when I went on my kidless vacation this last week I found myself singing to myself as I got dressed and as I walked around. I remembered how much I really do like music, it just has to take a backseat for right now.

It's not that I don't like music. We sing a lot in our home, actually. My husband and I own an absurd amount of CD's and MP3's. I sang choirs in school, do a lot of musical theater in the community, and spend my Sunday's singing with the children.

So, to answer the question...I guess I've had Rebecca Black's Friday in my head since it came out.

5. What were you thinking as you were doing this?

I'm pretty sure that I wrote all my thoughts as they came to me. It's the way that I do things. If you are wondering what I am thinking, then you weren't listening when I was talking.

There is never a guessing game with me. In many ways this makes me the anti-woman.

6. Do you have nicknames? What are they?

Actually people love to say 'Shelly Brown.' I'm not really sure why. They like to say my name whole. "Hi, Shelly Brown!" I've heard Downtown Shelly Brown, Shelly Belly, Michelle my bell, and the ever popular Smelly Brown. They think that last one is really funny. I never found it quite as humorous but I always knew that the people who said it were just trying to be clever. It helps that I only smell like lilacs and honeysuckles all of the time.

7. Tag 8 Blogger Friends:

8 is a big number and if 6 is afraid of 7 ('cause 7 ate 9) then 8 is fearsome.

But how about a couple of friends who could use a few extra followers

Katie Dodge- because she's awesome. She's been a big help to me recently and everyone should check out her blog (and she's SO close to 100 followers!)

Jim Duckett- because he's a fun guy to share the writing experience with.

Kim Karras- She's a brilliant writer and great crit partner.

Angie Cothran- She has a fun blog and has been a big supporter of WWS (writingwithshelly)

Rebecca Blevins- She's a pistachio. She's nutty, a little cracked, and green on the inside. ;)

The Former 786 and The Absurd Hamlet- These are not their real names but I can't be too hypocritical. Boys, if you would like to put your tag in your Facebook accounts instead of on your blogs (as your blogs are rather topical) I can respect that.

I have 1 more spots if anyone wants me to tag them- mention it in the comments and I'll officially confirm it. Otherwise, I'm OK with 7.
I'm a rule breaker like that.

  1. Okay, Shelly...pick me...pick me. How fun it's like the blog equivalent of a chain letter (which I normally hate) but because there are no threats of bad luck I'm in.

  2. Thanks for the tag and shout out! :D And I admit, everytime I see your name I say to myself, "Downtown Shelly Brown." I so get why some people call you that. :)

  6. Either way, consider yourself TAGGED! You can just say that both of us tagged you if you find out it was the same :)
    So no more pistachios, huh?
JK-I know that you changed on June 1st, I'm astute like that :) But not astute enough to change my blog list. Oops, I'll get to that...

  7. Thanks for the love, Shelly! But you gave me more props than I deserve: I'm actually a working mom with a stay-at-home-hubby. I'll be a full-time mom-slash-writer as soon as I make a mint with my WIP.... :)

  9. Hah! I don't know if I dare try to answer these questions - your answers are head and shoulders funnier than anything I could come up with... and I don't know if I have 8 friends... do I sound pathetic yet?
Love the time-telling pirate, by the way :)

  10. Ok Shelly, first off if these are the thoughts going through your head all the time I want in:) It's a good thing I wasn't drinking chocolate milk or something because no doubt I would be spewing it all over my children:)

Second, I very much liked learning more tidbits about Robin, and you're right her wip rocks the party!
