Variant Review

By Chad Morris

I have family in town this week, so I don’t have much time to plug this out. I’ll be quick. Here are a few thoughts on Variant (which are vague on purpose to not give anything away), in no particular order:

Variant, by Robison Wells1. Awesome. Loved it. Scored big on the blow-your-mind scale. I hadn’t been as excited about a book in a while. Thanks to those who recommended it.

2. I stayed up til 1 am last night finishing it—always a sign of a good book. (I also stayed up that late because I left the window of my care down and it got sprinklered. I had to air it out.—But that is another story. Not nearly as exciting.)

3. It was quite the psychological thriller. I just had to find out the answers. I had to form all my theories and find out if I was right (Yes, I’m that kind of guy who has to try to guess the end of movies.). And the best part—I wasn’t disappointed. Only one of my many theories proved to be mostly right, but I didn’t form that one until half-way through the book.

4. A fantastic premise goes a very, very, long way. A terrifying-I-don’t-know-what-I-would-do-in-that-impossible-situation premise.

5. I was terrified that I would be let down by the ending. Nope. Don’t get me wrong, it is a cliffhanger—obviously the first book in a series—but I still liked it.

6.  Bring on the next, Robison Wells. Bring it on.

  5. Melissa and I both read this on your recommendation. I finished it all in one day! Loved it. Didn't quite see the end coming, but had to know what it was. Looking forward to the sequel.
