Ah, the grade school essay that I always loved to write.
Micheal Di Gesu challenged us write our essay
and here is mine:
Summer is hot. I like the summer. We went to the park. We went to the pool. We went to the water slide park. I jumped off the high dive. It was awesome but scary. We picked blackberries and fed ducks. But we didn't feed the ducks the blackberries. That is what I did on my summer vacation.
I wrote this to mimic the style of my fourth grader. He's awesome. He told me this morning at breakfast that he really wants to publish a book. Just one book would be cool, he said.
This is really what I did on summer break this year. My family is saving up for a Disney Cruise so this summer was really low key. But my four oldest learned to swim, the middle three learned to ride their bikes, and nobody died. Successful summer.
It's always a good summer when nothing horrid happens. I bet that cruise will be awesome and worth it.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a successful Summer to me :-)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a very successful summer:)
ReplyDeleteHow cute about your son! I hope he does get to publish his book one day:)
and you did some writing, right? dont forget the writing =)
ReplyDeletenice essays!
Hey you couldn't ask for much more than everyone's safety. Saving up for disney- I envy the option. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteOooh, have fun on the cruise you lucky, lucky lady! It's great that your kids learned to swim and ride bikes - a successful summer for sure!
ReplyDeleteI like your son's limited ambition. He's smart to have small achievable goals :)
ReplyDeleteOOH - Disney cruise in on our list too. I feel like I might have to save forever. Sometimes low-key summers are nice. Ours was that way too. But we had swimming lessons and nobody died either. Good stuff.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea, and the fourth grade execution was perfect!
ReplyDeleteA Disney cruise?! Oh, you lucky. I'd love to do that someday. We didn't do much either this summer. Just swimming lessons and dance class for my 4 year old. That's about it. :) Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteAww, sounds like a fantastic summer! I loved the trick about writing it like a fourth grader - it pulled me back to the summers when I was a kid. :) Great post!
ReplyDeleteLove the essay! Summers are always more exciting in the eyes of kids, and it's always pleasing for the parents when we all live through it! :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Swimming and bike riding - success! My family did the "save for Disney" thing this summer too. We go next month. :D
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a fun summer. :)
ReplyDeleteHa ha I love it. What fun, you wrote it very well for a 4th grader.
ReplyDeleteSounds like your summer was about as exciting as mine :) Glad no serious harm or injury were sustained by anyone...
ReplyDeleteOooh, a cruise, and with the family? How fun! Yay!

Wow, Shelly,
ReplyDeleteYou have a large family. Love the essay in your four-year-old pov. Too cute.
I hope you make the Disney cruise ... the kids and YOU will have a blast.
Thanks for sharing your summer with us.
We're saving up for a Disney cruise, too! When are you going? We're going in December. We've been saving up for two years.
ReplyDeleteFormer 786- yours is closer. We are looking at Feb of 2013 (those puppies are expensive) and we're going with family and that is the date we have decided on.
ReplyDeleteHi Shelly!
ReplyDeleteLove the essay from your son's pov! I think I need to remind myself of the simple, positive things I did--if not this summer-then last week :)
Sounds fun...I fed ducks too!
