Just last week, I re-watched Labyrinth, you know, with David Bowie and the "babe with the power". One of the key things about absurdism is that there is a cyclical redundancy and nothing really gets resolved.
One of my film professors told us that women in general don't like absurdist films. His theory is that women LIVE absurdism. Exactly what day does a mother 'resolve' the laundry? NEVER, the minute she's done folding there is some dirty piece of clothing, somewhere, that needs to be washed. The dishes, straightening the house, mowing the lawn, taking out the trash, sweeping, etc. VICIOUS CIRCLE!
I had never thought of fantasy as a possible foil to this absurdism. Not only are there resolutions but we are taken to a place where they don't even talk about laundry ;)
Awesome job Melissa!
